About My Little, Independent House

posted on 13 May 2012

I stay in an independent house which just has a single bedroom, but a huge entrance hall with exposed trusses. I like my house very much because it has all the requirements whatever I want and also wherever I want them to be placed - the legacy a self build housing project gives you. First thing which I like very much about my house is its location. My house is located in a hilly area where there are greeneries all over the place. Near to my house there is a hospital, temple, shopping complex, school. Because of this there is no need for me to travel and to be stuck in the traffic as everything I mean hospital, school, shopping complex, and temple are near to my house. As my house is located in a hilly area I will get fresh air so because of this I will be healthy. There is no need to keep A.C in my house as it is located in a hilly area where the climate will be cool all through the year.

Windows: The One Item I'd Like to Update to My Home

posted on 28 March 2012

I love our home. We live in an extremely unique 100 year old bungalow. While there are numerous things we have updated at our house, including a complete renovation of the bathroom and kitchen and new perhaps a new porch canopy, there is still a big project I'd like to complete one day: the windows. Our windows are extremely old. They are the original windows to the house. They do provide a bit of charm, however, they are extremely energy inefficient. Whoever lived in our house before us also installed storm windows. While the storm windows do provide some help for our energy bill, they windows themselves are ugly. They also make it difficult to clean the windows, especially between the two windows. I’d like to upgrade to energy efficient windows. I believe our energy bill would decrease substantially. However, windows are extremely expensive, and it would probably cost around $10,000 to update our entire house. Maybe one day we will finally update the windows. One can only dream.

Late Night Rescue Calls to Pay the Bills for a Friend

What I hate about drunken people is that they tend to purposely forget the things they did during their drunken state. I am not really sure if what they say is true that they really do not remember but it ticks me off that they are using this as an excuse. Take for instance that one time when I received a phone call on my mobile in the middle of the night informing me that my good friend tried to leave the bar without paying. Unbelievable, so I drove out to the bar paid the tab and picked up my drunken friend who thought I was his cousin in his blurry state of mind. When sober Jerome is a reputed roof tiler who has clients both big and small, his only weakness is that once he starts drinking he does not know when to stop. He passed out on my living room couch and I nagged at him first thing in the morning amidst cooking breakfast and demanded he pay me double what I paid at the bar for all the trouble he has caused me.

The Proposed Changes I'd Love to Make to My Home

One thing I would like to do with my / our house is have the basement waterproofed and the convert the two rooms into bedrooms for our two daughters. We currently have three children sharing a room so the idea of everyone having their own bedroom would be stress relief for all involved. The two girls are 9 and 5 so having their own rooms would help instill organization as well as responsibility for them. Plus it would give them a place to keep "their" things so their siblings wouldn't mess with them! I would also like to complete our attic, adding some floor lamps there to make it look more cozy. I am a freelance graphic designer and the attic space would be a great place for me to have my office. I am currently "working" from out kitchen table and it is difficult to keep the kids out of my stuff. I am ALSO a full time student so doing homework can and is challenging at times!
