My Relationship with Banners: I Tolerate Them

posted on 13 March 2012

I spend a lot of my internet time in front of many websites everyday. Having been exposed to a lot of banners I now split them in to two main categories. On the one hand there are those that are somewhat discrete, simple, static (and I have to stress static) and even, every now and then, pretty. Yes, pretty. There are tools like puresilvabannermaker.com that do make aesthetically pleasing banners. The banners in this first category are like they are not even there. That said, there is still a chance that I take a look on what they are advertising. Then there is the second category. The second category has banners that are annoying, bad-taste and loud: if you accidentally hover the mouse pointer over them you might get screamed at to play a game or go get some "great" offer or you might even get to some new page that you have no idea what it is or how you got there. I always hope that there will be a program that takes these second category banners and turn them to simple, pretty pictures of my own liking. I understand, though, that that's the "game" and I'm playing along.
